The annual joint meeting of the three major marine societies in the Los Angeles, Calif., area turned out, as usual, to be a success. The Marine Technology Society acted as host. Their guests were The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers

 

Paul Atkinson Retires, Peter Hepp Elected Sun Ship President

President of Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Chester, Pa., Paul E. Atkinson, after 35 years of employment, has announced his intention to retire from the company at year end. To make the transfer of authority as smooth as possible, Mr. Atkinson submitted his immediate resignation.

Bird-Johnson Building New $5-Million Facility To Machine Blades

Bird-Johnson Company, Walpole, Mass., has begun construction of a $5-million blade-machining facility to convert bronze castings into finished marine propeller blades. The announcement was made by Howard H. Scott, chairman and chief executive officer, at a cornerstone-laying ceremony.
